2nd Sunday Series in Rockport
Let your shoes fly to the gorgeous Rockport Opera House for a Flying Shoes dance, now scheduled every second Sunday of the month! A unique cultural tradition, this intergenerational and chem-free program invites new dancers and experienced folks alike to participate.
The new Rockport dance committee is excited to welcome local folks to this series, especially from nearby towns like Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Lincolnville, Warren, Thomaston, and Cushing. Bring your friends and family!
The featured band for the premiere of the Second Sunday Series is Dance Panther: Alden Robinson on fiddle, Glen Loper on mandolin & banjo, and Bethany Waickman on guitar & piano. The trio’s foot-stomping energy and excellent musicianship will elevate the dance experience. Calling this month is Chrissy Fowler, whose priorities are having a rollicking dance party, welcoming new dancers, and cultivating an inclusive community.
Presented by the Rockport Opera House, the Town of Rockport, and Belfast Flying Shoes, the evening starts at 6:00 pm with the Community Dance – simple dances for all ages and experience levels and especially great for families with young children. All musicians are invited to be a “Back Row Bandit” and play along with the band during the community dance.
The Contra Dance begins at 7:00 pm, with a brief introductory session followed by a full evening of dances.
Admission is $15 – 25 sliding scale for the evening. (For the first hour’s community dance only, admission is $1 kids $2 adults.)
